Having a boy or a girl?

Are You Having A Boy Or A Girl? Use These Old Wives Tales To Find Out

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

You must be wondering whether you are expecting a boy or a girl.

Thanks to technological advancements, it’s not hard to find out the gender of your baby. At 20 weeks, your sonographer should be able to tell you with some certainty, the gender of your baby.

However, if the gender is not viewable, it’s hard to say exactly.

Of course, it’s a 50/50 chance between boy and girl, so if you can’t do it with the technological advancements, you can use the old wives’ tales instead.

These have been passed down through the generations and it’s not hard for people to identify the gender of your baby by looking at you.

Remember, these are not scientific predictions so they are not accurate. However, it’s always good to know.

Here are 11 wives’ tales for you to use.

1.      The Linea Nigra

This is the dark line that appears on your bump.

It is used to determine the gender of your baby. If the line goes above your belly button, it’s a sign you are carrying a boy.

On the other hand, if the line comes to a stop at the belly button, you are carrying a girl.

2.      Carrying High Or Low

You will definitely hear this before you give birth.

Actually, by the time you reach your due date, you will be tired of hearing it. You will hear a lot of people mention that you are either carrying high or low. You should know that people love commenting about baby bumps and this is the first thing they will say.

Well, according to myth, if you are carrying high you are carrying a girl. However, if you are carrying low, you are carrying a boy.

3.      The Feel Of Your Skin

If you are carrying a boy, you should expect to have dry skin. Therefore, if your skin is silky smooth, you are expecting a girl.

4.      It’s All In The Heart

Yes, the age old midwives’ tales reveal that your baby’s heart rate is also useful for predicting the gender.

Girls are said to have a faster heartbeat than boys. Therefore, if your heart rate is above 140 beats per minute, you are carrying a girl. If it is lower, you are expecting a boy.

5.      It’s Also In The Hair

Do you have thick or glossy hair during your pregnancy?

Well, that’s a sign that you are carrying a boy. If people are always commenting about your hair as you walk down the street, it’s a sign that you are carrying a boy. On the other hand, if you have dull and limp hair, it’s definitely a girl.

Also, the same can be said about your body hair. For instance, if it grows fast and thick, you are expecting a boy.

On the other hand, if the hair growth is normal, you may be carrying a girl. Remember, you might have a hard time shaving your legs during pregnancy so that’s not something to consider.

6.      Pregnancy Weight Gain

Yes, your weight gain during pregnancy can be seen as another indicator of the gender of your baby, notes weight gain expert Verona Chadwick. She says “the wives tale says that if you are carrying a lot of weight to the front, you should be preparing for a boy. On the other hand, if the pregnancy pounds are piling all over your body, you should be preparing for a girl.”

7.      Taste

What are you craving during your pregnancy? Well, whatever it is, it says a lot about the gender of your baby.

For instance, if you are craving sugary and spicy things, you are definitely expecting a girl. If you are spending too much time eating desserts, sugar, chocolate and fruits, all these sweet cravings are a sign that you are expecting a girl.

On the other hand, if you are craving salty and sour foods, you are expecting a boy. If you are drooling for pretzels, crisps and other sour things, you should be preparing for a boy.

8.      The Ring

Yes, you must have heard of the ring being used as an indicator of your baby’s gender. You can either use a ring, a pin or a needle for the best results. Pull out a strand of your hair and attach the ring or whatever you choose as mentioned. Lie down and dangle the item on your bump.

If the ring is moving in circles, you are expecting a boy. However, if it moves from side to side, similar to a pendulum, you should start preparing for a girl. It’s an old wives’ tale but it has often proven true!

9.      Morning sickness

Are you vomiting a lot during your pregnancy?

Well, that morning sickness is also a sign of the gender of your baby. It’s certainly not an easy thing to go through especially with all the hormones.

You are having a girl if you have intense morning sickness. However, if you have escaped this terrible stage of the first trimester, you are going to have a boy.

The wellness experts at Expect Me do recommend paying attention to your nausea triggers though. They explain “using your morning sickness to gauge the gender is great, but suffering every day isn’t so good. Choose foods carefully and drink plenty of water to try and avoid the worst of morning sickness.”

10.    Cold Or Warm Feet

Yes, you might not know it especially with your swollen feet but you can also determine your baby’s gender using your feet. If your feet are cold, it’s a boy.

However, if you have warm feet, you are expecting a girl. It’s as simple as that!

11.    Glowing

Most pregnant women glow during their pregnancy and this can be used as a prediction for the gender of your baby. If you are glowing and people keep mentioning it, you are definitely expecting a boy.

On the other hand, if a few people have mentioned how terrible your skin looks, you are expecting a girl. Of course, you need to know whether or not you have glowing skin before the pregnancy to determine the state during the pregnancy.

So, are you having a boy or girl?

As much as these theories have been passed around for generations, there is no definitive way to determine the gender of your baby.

That’s why it’s always a good idea to stick to what science has to offer. Remember, you might have a mixture of all the signs but also get the completely opposite gender to what you hoped for.

So always take these theories with a grain of salt!
